Cinderella Marin Cinderella Marin was born in the Bronx, but raised in Puerto Rico. She has been working with BronxGear for three short months, but her flair for bold, graphic designs seems to already have made a big impact there. She also works in Administration at The Point. Cinderella, like Alejandra and Tamares, became interested in working with BronxGear after her daughter first became involved with the group. As an art instructor for BronxGear, Cinderella likes to let the children develop their creativity on their own. She does ask them to not simply paint the usual house, tree and sun, but to make their work different, and uniquely their own. Cinderella is primarily a self-taught artist, who used to draw and sketch a little on her own. She never knew she'd become as creatively involved as she is with the scarf painting at BronxGear. "For me, it's like a meditation comes out in the scarf," she says, about the calming qualities of painting. "I like the expression through painting, and being able to create something of beauty and value." Asked how she keeps the attention of the young artists at BronxGear, she says, "When the children first get there, they might start out a little rowdy, but then they get into the painting, and things become quiet." "We work on themes with the scarf," she says. One theme Cinderella introduced to the artists, was a story about the survival skills of the Taino Indians. For Cinderella, the best thing about working with BronxGear is the children. She says, "Sometimes as an adult you forget innocence; things from the heart." The young artists from BronxGear bring that innocence back to her through the jewel-like beauty found in their scarf creations.
