Ebonie Jefferson

An interview with Ebonie is like the staccato of a drum set. Her rapid-fire replies are at the same time answers and announcements. She is a young woman in a hurry to succeed, and she has the drive and the creativity to do so. Ebonie admits that she has made some mistakes in life, but that art is her ticket. She likes to break rules, but now confines them to her artwork. Ebonie says she has a lot of reality to deal with, but making art relaxes her, and allows her to be free and at one with the natural scenes that she paints. Each painting she makes is quite different from the one before, except that Ebonie says she always uses blue.

In addition to her artwork Ebonie also professes to be an evangelist, and hopes that her experiences both good and bad will be an example for others. Her art has led her to writing, mostly poetry, in a rap street style that takes into account her life experiences. These experiences seem quite overwhelming considering her age, but not when you consider that Ebonie seems to move at the speed of sound. Her art is really overwhelming in that she has created her own new world to explore, and, she is inviting us along.
